Equipment Services is a customer service-oriented internal service fund that is responsible for the maintenance, fueling and replacement of the City’s fleet. Equipment Services’ mission statement is to work together to provide a well-maintained, safe, dependable and cost-effective fleet for the City by being service-oriented and having pride in our work.

Proactive in the preventive maintenance of vehicles, the Equipment Services Department strives to be cost-efficient and at the same time, effective in its mission. Primary goals include:

  • Zero return work for any repair that could have prevented while it was in the shop
  • Zero "comeback" described, as repairs not performed correctly the first time

Equipment Services operates in a business-oriented fashion by charging its customers hourly rates and markups to recoup its budget. Equipment Services provides service to its customers, while striving towards the lowest possible fleet cost by designing and implementing sound management techniques and policies.  

The fleet consists of:

  • 145 motorized light/medium vehicles and 38 heavy-duty vehicles traveling a combined 1.5 million miles annually 
  • 15 tractors and heavy equipment
  • 30 mid size equipment
  • 12 stationary generators
  • 51 trailers
  • 17 tractor attachments
  • 327 pieces of small equipment

Equipment Services is recognized by Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) as a Blue Seal of Excellence Shop with two double Master Technicians, one Master Technician, and all other technicians with at least six ASE certifications working towards their master. In addition, two of the technicians are also certified as Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT). A Fleet Supervisor, Fleet Analyst, Fleet Director and an onsite NAPA Parts warehouse staffed by two employees support these technicians. The onsite NAPA parts warehouse provides parts and supplies for use by all city departments.
