When is a residential Certificate of Occupancy required?
A residential Certificate of Occupancy is required each time there is a change in tenant or change in ownership at a residence. A Certificate of Occupancy is required to have gas and electric utilities turned on at a residence.
What is the process for getting gas and electricity turned on at a residence?
Call the Building Inspection Division at 972.919.2549 to set up a Certificate of Occupancy inspection. Once the inspection is complete, the gas and electricity companies are notified by the City to turn on utilities.
Can permits be obtained and approved for building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical or HVAC online?
No. However, various permit forms such as building, electrical, plumbing and HVAC are available on the City’s Web site. All permits must be completed and turned into the Community Services Department for approval.
