- Pet Adoption Policies
The City’s Animal Adoption Center usually has a variety of potential pets from which you and your family may choose. Our dogs and cats come in all shapes, sizes, breeds, ages and colors; and they are all looking for good homes. All of these animals were either released to the City by their previous owner or have become the property of the City due to pet owners not reclaiming the animals within three (3) business days of impoundment at the facility. The person adopting a new animal from the facility must be 18 years or older, or accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
Animals are available for adoption at the City of Farmers Branch Animal Adoption Center for a minimal fee of $85.00. Special discounts are provided to address overcrowding or capacity issues and for special adoption events. The fees include sterilization (if applicable), rabies and some other vaccinations, microchip and health evaluation at a local participating veterinarian clinic. Cash, debit and credit cards are accepted. A $100 refundable deposit and signed sterilization/vaccination agreement are required for animals under the age of six (6) months. Credit card payments received toward the $100 deposit will be held (not deposited) if the pet owner provides proof of sterilization and rabies vaccination by the date set forth in the sterilization/vaccination agreement. Refundable deposits remitted in the form of cash will be refunded within 30 days of the City being provided proof of sterilization and rabies vaccination.
If you are redeeming a lost pet, you must be 18 years or older or accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. The impoundment fee starts at $20 for the first day and $5 for each additional day for sterilized animals, and proof of current rabies vaccination is required prior to redemption. Unsterilized animals require an additional $75 unsterilized animal redemption fee and proof of current rabies vaccination. In lieu of the $75 unsterilized animal redemption fee, the redeeming pet owner may sign a sterilization/vaccination agreement and remit a $100 refundable deposit, which if remitted in the form of a credit card will be held (not deposited) and returned upon proof of sterilization and rabies vaccination if provided by the date set forth in the sterilization/vaccination agreement. Refundable deposits remitted in the form of cash will be refunded within 30 days of the City being provided proof of sterilization and rabies vaccination.
Note* For any Farmers Branch resident that is surrendering their pet to the Adoption Center there is a $20.00 intake/surrender fee for each animal surrendered.
