Must I accompany my child at the Community Recreation Center?

Children under the age of 7 should be accompanied by someone age 15 or older. 

What documents are accepted as proof of Farmers Branch residency?

In order to obtain a membership or apply for financial assistance, a resident must have a valid driver’s license or a Texas state-issued ID with a Farmers Branch address.

What does a membership at the Community Recreation Center include?

The 60,000-square-foot facility offers something for the entire family, including:

  • Cardio and fitness area with MicroFit fitness testing
  • Available dance/fitness studio
  • Computer lab
  • Three-lane walking/jogging track
  • Locker rooms with amenities such as towels, shampoo and conditioner
  • Two gymnasiums
  • Recreational gymnastics gymnasium with parent viewing area
  • Tree House (child care) with attached play yard
  • Three community rooms with audio-visual equipment
  • Warming kitchen
  • Snack and play room
  • Teen room

What kind of fitness equipment is available?

There are PreCor treadmills, ellipticals, upright and recumbent stationary bikes, stretching machines, Stairmaster stepper, Step Mill, Nautilus Nitro Circuit Equipment, and free weights that include various benches, dumbbells, a Smith machine and Cable Crossover. All cardiovascular equipment has access to Cardio-theater, so bring headphones and plug them in for music or TV.

How long is the track outside?

The outside track is .38 of a mile.

What are the facility hours?

  • 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Friday, with the fitness/track area opening at 6 a.m.
  • 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, with the fitness/track area opening at 7 a.m.
  • 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday

Are there membership fees?

Yes. Fees for Farmers Branch residents are as follows:

Basic Membership (Individual or Family)

  • $10 per year, per individual, or $30 per year, per family (immediate family members only)
  • Includes gymnasiums, snack and play, teen room, computer lab (age qualifications apply) and a discount for classes

Basic Membership + Fitness (Individual)

  • $190 per year, per individual
  • Payment options include payment in full or $25 down with monthly checking or credit card drafts of $15 per month

Basic Membership + Fitness (Family)

  • $370 per year, per family (immediate family members only)
  • Payment options include payment in full or $40 down with monthly checking or credit card drafts of $30 per month. Includes everything listed in the Basic Membership, plus the fitness area for those age 15 and up. See staff for corporate and non-resident membership rates

What types of memberships are available?

There are memberships for Farmers Branch residents, corporate residents (those who work in Farmers Branch), and a limited number of non-resident memberships. Farmers Branch residents must provide proof of residency.

Can I bring a guest with me to play basketball or work out?

$5 guest fee is required, plus a completed waiver. Guests cannot exceed five visits in a 30-day period.

Do you offer personal training or massage therapy?

Yes, there are a variety of packages available for both services. For more information, contact the Community Recreation Center at 972.247.4607.

Do you have babysitting?

Yes, for ages 6 months to 6 years, during specified hours, for $2 per hour. Reservations are required.

What kind of classes do you offer?

There are a variety of fitness classes, sports classes and camps, pre-school arts and science, martial arts, boxing, dance, recreational gymnastics and cooking, to name a few.

How can I view a listing of all the classes offered?

Class listings may be viewed by picking up a “Rec Scene Schedule” at the Recreation Center. The latest issue is also posted as a link on the Play page.

Are classes included in the membership?

No, most classes are paid monthly and members receive a discount on class fees.

Do you have to be a Farmers Branch resident to take classes?

No, but non-residents/non-members must register one week prior to class and may only register for the current monthly session.

Can I register online or do I have to come to the Recreation Center?

Members must have an account set up before they may register online. Accounts may be set up in person at the Recreation Center. Members will be issued an Account ID and PIN for each family member to use for online registration.

Do you have specific programs for youths and teens?

Can you rent the Recreation Center for a private party?

Yes, please visit the Recreation Center Special Services page for information and downloadable application.

Is financial assistance available for low-income families?

Financial assistance is available for classes only, to qualified Farmers Branch residents age 18 and under.

When does the pool open for the season?

The Don Showman Swimming Pool opens the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend.

Do you have to be a resident to use the swimming pool?

No, but fees differ depending on residency.

What are the fees for the swimming pool?

Daily admission is $1 for age 15 and below and $2 for age 16 and up. Season passes are $12 and $18 for individuals and $55 for families. Non-resident daily admission is $4 and $6. Non-resident season passes are $24 and $36 for individuals and $95 for families.

Can I rent the pool for a private party?

Yes. Please contact Community Recreation staff at 972.247.4607.

What classes are offered at the swimming pool?

Swim lessons for all ages, kayaking, scuba, aqua pilates, junior lifeguarding and lifeguarding are available to residents and non-residents during the summer season.

How can my group volunteer at events?

The City provides many opportunities for Farmers Branch non-profit groups to volunteer and raise funds for their organization at City-sponsored special events.  Examples include sponsoring game booths, trick-or-treat stations, concession booths, information booths and providing additional operational support to City staff during an event.
