City Manager Gary Greer invites all residents to join him in the beautification of the City by planting and maintaining roses in their own gardens. There are also opportunities to volunteer in the Rose Gardens of Farmers Branch. To celebrate prime rose blooming season, a friendly contest for residents will be held at the annual Fall Rose Show hosted at City Hall.
HOW TO JOIN
To join The Rose Gardeners of Farmers Branch, fill out and submit a registration form by Ocober 1 for eligibility to participate in the current year's rose show and qualify for benefits. Once you have joined there is no need to resubmit each year.

THE ROSE GARDENERS OF FAMERS BRANCH ROSE SHOW
The contest is intended to be an enjoyable and friendly contest with an emphasis on participation. For those who wish to participate in a more competive contest, the Dallas Rose Society sponsored show is open to all. Visist www.dallasrosesociety.org for their show schedule.
Realizing that the perfect bloom does not always come at show time, a photography category is also available in addition to the floral specimen category.
Each participant may enter up to two photographs and one floral specimen. Entries will be accepted at City Hall on Friday, evening October 18 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. or Saturday morning October 19 from 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. The exhibit area will be closed to participants until the show is judged and open to the public Saturday afternoon at 12:30 p.m. The show closes at 4:30 p.m. and you may pick up your entry (and award) between 4:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. that day or from the Parks Office during regular operating hours during the week.
All photographs should be an 8" x 10" color photograph of a rose or groups of roses. The format may be either horizontal or vertical. A frame will be provided at the show for display purposes. Entry tag (provided at show) should include the rose variety if known. Photographs will be judged 100% on photographic excellence. Awards will be given for each of the following:
- *MOST FRAGRANT ROSE
- *MOST BEAUTIFUL ROSE IN BUD STAGE
- *MOST BEAUTIFUL ROSE IN OPEN STAGE

ADOPT-A-ROSE BED
Volunteers are the heart of our gardens. Whether as an individual, as a family or as a group of friends, Adopt-A-Rose Bed is an excellent way to participate in an exciting beautification effort in Farmers Branch.
As a volunteer in the Rose Gardens, you will keep the roses properly labeled, remove any weeds, keep the mulch tidy and alert staff to any potential problems. If your rose bed is in the Display Garden (stone border), any spent blossoms will need to be pruned. Suggested personal tools include a rake, weeding tool and pruners. There is a trash receptacle in the park to leave any debris collected. Please allow time to maintain your rose bed every other week (but we won't mind if you should visit more often). The maintenance may be performed at your conveneience during the regular daily park hours of 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. There will be additional work times set up for pruning roses. Your generous donation of time will be acknowledged with a personalized Adopt-A-Rose Bed marker.
City staff will provide training and support by making needed chemical applications, fertilizer applications and mulch applications. There is an automatic irrigation system to handle watering. All mowing and triming will be done by staff.
If you need more information about becoming a Rose Gardener, the Rose Show or Adopt-A-Rose Bed please call Pam Smith at 972.919.2625.
