Tree Lighting event set for December 1 at Historical Park

HISTORICAL PARK ~ Fireworks will light the early December sky in advance of 300,000 twinkling lights at the annual Farmers Branch Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, set for Saturday, December 1 at 6:30 p.m. at the Farmers Branch Historical Park.

In addition, there will be a KidZone, Snow Tubing, Dallas Puppet Theater, complimentary hot chocolate and treats and visits with Santa Claus. Admission is free.Parking will be available at the Metrosquare Business Park, two blocks south of the Historical Park on Ford Road, with a free hayride shuttle to the gate.

Right now, we are in the midst of an application to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality to expand the allowable capacity of the Camelot Landfill to serve the waste disposal needs of Farmers Branch and other communities for years to come. Camelot is owned by Farmers Branch, but located in Lewisville along one of its borders with Carrollton.Memo from the Manager

HISTORICAL PARK ~ The decades-old Farmers Branch Christmas Tour of Lights has come into the 21st century with the addition of a Facebook page for the annual celebration of seasonal celebration.

Victory Belles to serenade Veterans Day 2012 celebration

SENIOR CENTER ~ Harkening back to the golden age of military melodies, the three-part harmony singing and dancing troupe, the Victory Belles, are scheduled to perform at the 2012 Farmers Branch Veterans Day Celebration, set for Friday, November 9 at 10:30 a.m. at the Farmers Branch Senior Center.

The Belles perform regularly at the National World War II Museum in New Orleans and around the country at special events.

Companions for Heroes selects Farmers Branch as first shelter in Texas

FARMERS BRANCH ~ Becoming the first in Texas, the Farmers Branch Animal Adoption Center has partnered with a national program that helps match pets with soldiers, marines, police officers and firefighters, suffering from post-traumatic stress or other like disorders.

Based in Rockville, Maryland, Companions for Heroes was founded by a veteran who discovered that his dog's affection helped dissuade him from suicide after returning from service overseas. Companions for Heroes
