Software helps eliminate distractions for officers behind the wheel

JUSTICE CENTER ~ Designed to enhance traffic safety, the Farmers Branch Police Department will become the first agency in Texas to employ new technology that prohibits typing on in-car computers when the patrol vehicle is traveling faster than 15 mph.

Farmers Branch Police Chief Sid Fuller said the project is not in response to a serious problem, but a proactive move to eliminate the prospect for distractions, thereby improving safety for officers and the motoring public.

Council approves incentives for relocation of La Bodega produce company

FARMERS BRANCH ~ The Farmers Branch City Council has approved a business personal property tax rebate that clears the way for the relocation of a Metroplex-area produce company headquarters and distribution center to the City.

Council schedules joint meeting with Planning & Zoning Commission to discuss west side

FARMERS BRANCH ~ A joint meeting between the Farmers Branch City Council and the members of the Farmers Branch Planning and Zoning Commission is set for Thursday, February 7, at 6 p.m. at the Bob Phelps Fire Administration Building.

The meeting has been called so that members of both bodies can discuss planning for the future of the west side of Farmers Branch, that is, generally, the area of the City west of Interstate 35E.

Economic Development report reveals business sector growing at a steady pace

FARMERS BRANCH ~  In a challenged economy and amidst stout competition from surrounding cities, the Farmers Branch Economic Development Department still attracted 174 new companies last year, and was recognized as one of the top five agencies of its kind in the Metroplex.

Farmers Branch Director of Economic Development and Tourism, John Land, briefed the City Council on the numbers for the 2012 fiscal year in an Economic Development Year in Review presentation at Tuesday's Council meeting.

Randy Walhood appointed Director of Public Works
