Farmers Branch factors into disaster recovery in West

WEST, TX ~ Drawing upon his years of experience in the field and specialty certification as a Disaster Inspector for the State of Texas, Farmers Branch Director of Community Services Jim Olk spent Wednesday assisting state and federal officials in determining the extent of damage to structures within the blast radius of the disaster in the central Texas town of West.

HISTORICAL PARK ~ Grown-ups should plan on spending an evening out, complete with food trucks, music and a movie under the stars on Saturday night, April 20 as the City of Farmers Branch presents “Date Night” at the Historical Park, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Entertainment will include the Dallas band, “The O’s,” along with some of DFW’s best gourmet food trucks and an outdoor movie, “Trouble with the Curve,” starring Clint Eastwood, Amy Adams and Justin Timberlake.
…Street condition study to combine 21st century technologies

FARMERS BRANCH ~ As a means of gathering scientific data on street conditions in order to prioritize repair and maintenance schedules, the Farmers Branch Public Works Department has begun a comprehensive study, using a combination of 21st century technologies.
“In years past, street assessment was done by human observation,” said Farmers Branch Public Works Director Randy Walhood. “Now, technology is going to give us so much more information than we ever dreamed possible.”
…City announces holiday closings

CITY HALL ~ Most Farmers Branch City offices and facilities will be closed for the Good Friday holiday, Friday, March 29. There will be no garbage collection.
Facilities with limited hours that day include the Farmers Branch Community Recreation Center and Historical Park, each open from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. The Manske Library and Farmers Branch Senior Center are both closed.
On Easter Sunday, all City facilities will be closed. For more information, call 972.247.3131.

HISTORICAL PARK ~ Advance orders are now being taken for a limited edition pictorial history book of Farmers Branch, set for publication later this year.
The Farmers Branch Historical Park says the volume will be full color with expanded history and an index that will provide a great historical reference of the City.
