Historical Park gates open at 4 p.m.

FARMERS BRANCH ~ With thousands expected for tonight's free concerts at Liberty Fest in Farmers Branch, officials are readying the Farmers Branch Historical Park for a major celebration.

The legendary Styx will headline the free event, with special guests Gin Blossoms and local bands, Time Machine and Look Out opening the evening. Gates at the Historical Park, 2540 Farmers Branch Lane, open at 4 p.m. Free tickets are required for admission and may be picked up at participating sponsor locations or printed from an online pdf at www.farmersbranch.info.

The evening event is the finale of the third annual Farmers Branch Liberty Fest which has seen firefighting teams from all over the nation compete at the Scott Firefighter Combat Challenge. Other events have included the annual Car, Truck & Motorcycle Show, Outdoor Expo, military display, 7-on-7 Football Tournament and American Red Cross Blood Drive.

On Friday evening, the American Fallen Soldiers Project presented a portrait of the late U.S. Army First Lieutenant Robert F. Welch, III to his widow and family in a solemn ceremony.

Parking for Saturday night's concerts will be available at the Metrosquare Business Park, two blocks south of the Historical Park on Ford Road, City Hall, 13000 William Dodson Parkway, Oran Good Park, 13300 Dennis Lane, or Janie Stark Elementary School, 12800 Josey Lane, at a cost of $10 per vehicle after 4 p.m. (cash only, please). All parking lots will have a free shuttle to the Historical Park gates.

As a reminder, major construction work is scheduled on LBJ freeway tonight at Welch Road so alternate travel routes are recommended.
