Farmers Branch again named Tree City USA
July 14, 2010
FARMERS BRANCH ~ For more than a quarter century, the national Arbor Day Foundation has named Farmers Branch as a Tree City USA for its commitment to urban forestry.
It is the 26th time Farmers Branch has earned this national designation.
Farmers Branch has met the four standards to become a Tree City USA community by having a department to oversee the care of trees, a tree-care ordinance, a comprehensive community forestry program and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.
"We commend Farmers Branch's elected officials, volunteers and citizens for providing vital care for its urban forest," said John Rosenow, chief executive and founder of the Arbor Day Foundation. "Trees provide numerous environmental, economical and health benefits to millions of people each day and we applaud communities that make planting and caring for trees a top priority."
