City Council takes first step to return grocery store to Four Corners
July 14, 2010
FARMERS BRANCH ~ Capping more than a year of discussions, the Farmers Branch City Council today authorized the negotiation of a contract to return a grocery store to the Four Corners shopping area by the end of next year.
The new concept in local grocery stores, Neighborhood Market by Walmart, is projected to be a 35,000 square-foot facility that will be consistent with the spirit of the vision plan adopted by local merchants, area residents and interested citizens during workshops and meetings in the area in 2007.
The City acquired the majority of buildings on the southeast corner in 2009 in an effort to spur the redevelopment effort. Dubbing the project as “Extraordinary Makeover: Four Corners Edition,” a public demolition event earlier this year gathered 300 local residents and business people to symbolically commence the revitalization process.
Preliminary plans call for construction to begin by mid 2011 with an opening before the end of 2011.
