March 13, 2010
FARMERS BRANCH ~ The Cell Phones for Soldiers organization has awarded the Farmers Branch Community Recreation Center a Certificate of Appreciation in recognition of collecting 17,820 minutes worth of cell phone donations since becoming a drop off point.
The program takes old cell phones and converts them to phone cards for American troops to use while serving away from home. Assistant Parks and Recreation Director Jeff Harting said thanks go to all members of the community who have donated but added that more donations are desired.
Anyone wishing to donate an old cell phone to the Cell Phones for Soldiers project can drop it by the Farmers Branch Community Recreation Center at 14050 Heartside Place. Call 972.247.4607.
