Everyone Invited to Participate in Community Garden
October 30, 2008
In an effort to invite the community to “break ground together” with a project that will provide for families and for the community at large, the Farmers Branch Parks & Recreation Dept., in association with Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, is planning to plant a Community Garden on the church property at 12411 Templeton Trail in Farmers Branch.
Farmers Branch Parks Landscape Manager Pam Smith said the meeting will afford the opportunity to learn what a community garden is and how local families, churches, civic organizations, youth groups, schools and clubs can get involved. "This garden will encourage the building of a community that will come together to nurture the earth through sustainable gardening while growing healthy food for both the family and the community through Metrocrest Social Services," Ms. Smith explained.
The City of Farmers Branch will facilitate the project to be located on the church property. The site plan includes approximately 50 plots for adoption, a composting area and a community orchard. Call 972.919.2625 for more information.
